Origins - How It Began

Gavin Lee Zane may have begun high school with an intention to pursue a degree in mechanical engineering, but it wasn't until his Sophomore year at Christiana High School in Newark, Delaware that he realized that he wanted to dedicate his life to music. It began with learning to play the piano, and producing his first instrumental track on a school computer. A few months later, Zane chose to turn his initials into his stage name, 'GLZ' when he followed my father's suggestion of adding rap vocals to some of his work. From that point on, he continued to nourish his passion, creating a unique sound of music that incorporates elements from several diverse genres of music. While his early beats and instrumentals would resemble the electronic/dubstep style of DJs like Skrillex and Steve Aoki, they were mixed with the orchestral sounds of piano riffs and string arrangements. his ability to switch up between aggressive double-time flows and slower, softer rap immediately resembled a mixture of styles from artists such as NF, Witt Lowry, TI and Eminem. With a purpose of uniting different types of people from different backgrounds, including both the urban culture of hip hop and the southern backwoods lifestyle of his personal roots, GLZ set forth on a mission to create a sound of universal relativity that people of every background could relate to. Realizing that when he had been at his lowest point, music had saved his life, Zane resolved that he would give back to the world by writing music that would not only uplift his fans and hopefully help them through similar tough times, but would inspire them to be no less than the best they could possibly be. GLZ began being mentored by Def Jam Records in the summer of 2016, after being taken on tour by independent label Cradle Records and given the opportunity to perform for Def Jam A&R Wise McGriff, however that relationship unfortunately came to an end when Paul Rosenberg took over at Def Jam, at which it is believed Wise had been dismissed from the label. His debut album, 'Prologue,' was released in the spring of 2017, and is focused on the beginnings of his journey into the music world, experiencing life in general, and finding himself through music. His second album, 'Legacy', was released in October of 2018, and is focused more around the darker aspects of Zane's personal hardships, internal demons and life experiences. GLZ's third album, 'Exorcism', is due for release in June, 2021, and is expected to be entirely different from my previous albums in sound and style. Centering around overcoming the hardships mentioned in the previous albums, Exorcism showcases some of Zane's most diverse works to date, and pushes his musical boundaries to some of the farthest lengths yet.
